Sterling's ATS Belay Device is ideal for climbing, canyoneering and rappelling activities combines the smooth rope control of the common figure 8 device with the security plate-style belay device. This versatility allows you to make both single and double rope rappels and belay a leader or follower. It has four hyper horns allowing you to add friction or lock the rope mid-descent.

"The ATS will function on several different sizes of rope, great for canyoneering. I first tested it with more friction on a 9mm rope, by putting the rope around the bottom left horn. I knew as soon as I put weight on the rope, I didn't need that much friction and took it off. I also used a 8.4mm on the 140 foot rappel. It was also used with the curve down and no horns. It was very easy to use all the way down. There are several friction options you can use. I suggest to test out on several different sizes of rope to see how much friction you will want. It is very difficult to take rope off the lower left horn when loaded. Than it is to just make a rap on the right side lower and upper horn. However if you think you will need the extra friction, (say in a waterfall) you do have the horn on the left, which puts a-lot more friction on the rope, (if you thread it that way at the top, before loading rope)."
