Waterproof Technologies: GORE-TEX®
Whether you're skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoeing, XC skiing, mountaineering, ice climbing or just playing in the snow or commuting, you know that one of the most frustrating, and possibly dangerous, scenarios is wet gloves and cold hands. Quality waterproof or water-resistant gloves are a wise buy and, sometimes, downright necessary.
Perhaps the most well known, and certainly one of the best, types of water proofing is GORE-TEX®. GORE-TEX® is completely waterproof and breathable, allowing body moisture and condensation to cross the membrane and evaporate, while preventing external moisture from getting in. The key to GORE-TEX® is a bi-component membrane. The microscopic pores of the membrane ar about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture vapor. Vapor escapes and water stays out. GORE-TEX® is so confident in their product that if you aren't totally satisfied with your GORE-TEX® product, they will repair or replace it or refund the purchase price.
