Nice boot, needs more break in time?

"These boots are cute, super comfortable, water repellant and very warm. Because I live in a flat area of the US, my break-in with them was minimal. I put them to the test hiking the Old Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu. Because our weather was great, there wasn't much muck, just many kilometers climbing/descending winding trails, stairs and rock at altitude each day with a pack. Overall, the boots felt light, dry and sturdy, but going down hill for hours over crooked rocks was painful to my ankles due to back rubbing. In all fairness, I typically hike in lower shoes, but for this multi-day trip, I really wanted some good support. I tried loose, and tight, but I just couldn't get my ankles comfortable. At the end of day three, my right foot was quite sore. I think I'll continue break-in and hope for that helps. "
